Living Room and Dining Room Remodel

Our first major project when moving to this house was fixing up the dining room walls and having new cabinets installed in the living room.

  • This is how things looked shortly after moving in. The TV was mounted above the bench seat (ugly!), and wires ran everywhere.
  • The dining room from when we moved in. Lumpy walls, green trim, a big cabinet between the living room and dining room, and windows that didn't open.
  • Christine removes plaster and wallpaper from the walls.
  • A profile of what was on our walls. The purple scratch coat at the bottom is the original plaster. Above that was wall paper, then another skim coat of plaster, then another layer of wall paper. It was a mess!
  • Halfway through taking the windows apart, replacing the sash cords, and fixing up the window trim. The dining room windows didn't open when we moved in and after this work they were fully operational.
  • All fixed up.
  • This was a bench seat when we moved into the house. It wasn't very functional because the windows were tiny and don't get much sunlight anyway. It was the ideal bump-out to put some cabinets into.
  • I roughed in the electrical.

  • There used to be tall cabinets here seperating the living room and dining room. We replaced them with a bench seat.
  • The cabinets are in, but no doors or trim. <br />

The large center cabinet is for the TV. On each side of the TV there are shelves on drawer slides for stereo and video components. Under the TV there are 5 deep drawers for holding CDs (about 200 CDs per drawer).
  • The component shelves slide out (to make it easier to wire them) and the shelf locations are adjustable.

  • This is more or less how it normally looks.
