Rory's Rack

A prototype rack for Rory's new handlebar bag system. The bag is secured using Ortlieb pannier hooks. The rack is a larger than a normal handlebar bag rack because it has to be longer than the bag, but the weight is still reasonable at 230 grams.

The rack is primarily 1/4 x 0.028" tubing with 5/16 x 0.028" where the pannier hooks are mounted.

  • Adding the spacer which will secure the rack's stay to the dropout.

  • The rack top is done and the first stay is tacked into place.
  • Rory's finished up the brazing on the stays.
  • The rack is done. It is an inverse triangle, about 7" wide at the front, 3" wide at the rear, and 9" long.
  • We just used two M5 eyelets to hold the strap that mounts the rack to the fork crown. Rory's will add another hole to the strap to move the rack closer to the head tube. The flat strap isn't super secure, we may replace this later.
  • Here you can see how the Ortlieb hooks mount to the rack. They'll be installed onto the bag. A third hook will go in the rear.
